True colors is a very meaningful song for the LGBTQ+ community : it’s about the beauty and the freedom feeling you get from showing off your true colors, which can happen sometimes when you come out to someone.
Note : A few years after the release of this song, Cyndi Lauper founded an organization called TRUE COLORS FUND, which helps homeless LGBTQ+ youth.
