Review:

A beautiful representation of cultural diversity (characters of colour) for this first production by the actress Mindy Kaling. A comedy on adolescence introducing classic themes like sexual awakenings, romantic relationships, friendships, and the differences within a family. Unfortunately, we run into a lot of gender stereotypes in the dialogues and into an important emphasis on the loss of virginity in a heterocentric context. From the beginning, all the characters are presumed heterosexual and the only gay character is shown with many gender stereotypes (the “tomboy” that likes robots). It’s unfortunate because there were a lot of expectations for this Netflix series.
