This show is out of the ordinary. It tackles difficult subjects with a unique style of humour. The fact that the creator, who is also the main actor, tells his own story makes it an authentic and very touching story and gives its characters an uncommon realistic aspect. His awkward way of talking about his homosexuality is refreshing. The same can be said about the way he talks about his mother’s mental health and other characters. The humour is always present, Tom’s defence mechanism, but it doesn’t make the subjects any less serious. There is a very interesting diversity that is represented for both sexual orientation and mental health. The suicide of his mother at the end of the TV show is very difficult, especially after seeing throughout the seasons her attempts at getting better. This TV show is honest and difficult, but also fun and completely unique.
